Description Of The Thermal Cutoff Fuse Links

Thermal fuse, also called thermal fuse (national standard GB9816.1-2013), is a temperature-sensing loop cut-off device. Thermal fuses can sense the overheating generated during the abnormal operation of electrical and electronic products, thereby cutting off the circuit to avoid the occurrence of fire. Commonly used in: hair dryer, electric iron, rice cooker, electric stove, transformer, electric motor, water dispenser, coffee pot, etc. The thermal fuse cannot be used again after operation, and only operates once at the fusing temperature.

Operating Principle Of The Thermal Cutoff Fuse Links

The active trigger mechanism of the thermal cutoff is an exclusively formulated, electrically nonconductive pellet. Under normal operating temperatures, the solid pellet holds spring-loaded contacts closed. When a predetermined temperature is reached, the pellet melts, allowing the compression spring to relax. The trip spring then slides the contact away from the lead and the circuit is opened (see below figures). After a thermal cutoff opens a circuit, the TCO needs to be replaced. This replacement procedure must include correction of the fault condition before the product is operated again.
